Description
If we turn from the square into Koper’s Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, we can see there an altarpiece of St. Barbara from the 17th century, once belonging to the confraternity of gunners in which Santorio’s father Antonio served. She is the patron saint of gunners (and therefore also of mathematicians, since accurate aim required the use of mathematical calculations), as well as of masons, miners, stonemasons, and all workers exposed to the danger of sudden death.
