In 1660, he was followed by one of the most important dragomans, Tommaso Tarsia, who rose to the title of Primary (Chief) Translator and Diplomatic Assistant (dragomano grande). During the Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683, he assumed the role of the principal diplomatic representative of the Republic of Venice. As a mediator, he participated in the conclusion of the Peace of Karlovac (1699), the most important peace treaty of that period for Central Europe.
Antonio Tarsia (1643–1722) was a composer who left a significant mark on the musical life of Koper. He was also one of the most respected masters of Venetian sacred music of his time.
